Using the example of the labor market of the Republic of Belarus, the article substantiates the emergence of a certain trend in the transformational processes taking place in it, and traces a certain logic in the emergence of new non-standard forms of employment. The author examines the objective factors that have affected the change in the labor market model that has developed over the years, which, moreover, has largely taken into account the requirements and needs of the global labor market, including the need and desire of an employee to reduce their dependence on the employer, the legal opportunity to receive additional income, etc. The article highlights the problem of two processes: on the one hand, against the background of negative demographic processes, the number of working citizens in the country is steadily decreasing from year to year, and on the other, the dynamics of an increase in popularity of non–standard forms of employment in recent years, which leads to an acute shortage of personnel at state-owned enterprises. Special attention is being paid to the increasingly popular type of employment among the population of the country, such as self-employment. The application of a new tax regime in the form of professional income tax (NAP), which has already received a popular name - the self-employed tax, is being considered. The pros and cons of self-employment and the transition to the payment of income tax are assessed. The author gives his vision of the essence of self-employment. The thesis on the future prospects of expanding non-standard forms of employment in Belarus is revealed, and measures to control this process are proposed.
