The article examines the relationship between food security and the development of the agricultural sector in the Republic of Tajikistan. The theoretical foundations of food security are considered as a set of indicators of the availability, access, use and stability of food. Based on statistical data for 2015-2024, an analysis of the dynamics of production of major agricultural crops, livestock products and the share of agriculture in the country's GDP was carried out. Positive trends in the growth of wheat, potato, and melon production, as well as an increase in the industry's contribution to the economy, have been identified. At the same time, systemic problems limiting the sustainability of the agricultural sector are identified: deterioration of irrigation infrastructure, climate risks, lack of technology and financial resources. The necessity of modernization of agriculture, development of storage and processing infrastructure, as well as improvement of state policy in order to strengthen food independence and national security is substantiated.
