Map of modern leadership concepts
Abstract and keywords
Abstract:
The article analyzes the evolution of the main modern leadership concepts in the context of their impact on organizational management and attempts to systematize them using the mapping method. Modern leadership concepts address various aspects that affect leadership effectiveness. To better understand the potential and compare different approaches, as well as to identify directions for further research and development in the field of leadership, a classification of these concepts is needed. Existing typologies show that the two dimensional classification attempted until recently has significant limitations; today, a new approach is required. The aim of the study is to systematize key leadership theories using the mapping method. Objectives: to examine the evolution of the main leadership concepts, including: personal (the concept of personal traits); behavioral (Kurt Lewin’s theory, Blake Mouton Grid); situational (situational leadership, W. Reddin’s 3D model); process oriented (Vroom Yetton model); and modern ones (emotional intelligence, distributed and transformational leadership). The methodology is based on a systematic analysis of sources, the comparative method (comparing the parameters of the concepts), and the structural functional approach (assessing the impact of styles on the environment). An analysis of the leadership concepts map shows that there is potential for further development of leadership theories, for example, among normative and situational approaches focused on groups, organizations, and the external environment. The main findings of the study show that there is no universally effective leadership style; the choice will largely depend on the situation, the leader’s personal characteristics, and organizational culture. Due to the complexity of the modern external environment and the need for rapid adaptation, the most promising approach is a combination of situational and process oriented concepts, taking into account cross cultural characteristics. Practical significance. The research results are applicable for leadership training, optimization of management processes, and further research in this field.
