The problem of waste management is related not only to ecology, but also to the rational use of resources. The growing volume of garbage increases the burden on landfills and urban infrastructure, so recycling, separate collection and reuse of materials are becoming increasingly important. The article examines how the global waste recycling market is developing and why countries with developed infrastructure show a higher level of recycling. Against this background, Russia's position looks contradictory.: The level of recycling is gradually increasing, but the bulk of the waste is still being sent for disposal, due to a lack of processing capacity, weak separate collection, low burial tariffs and insufficient investments. Organic waste, paper, cardboard and plastic are of particular importance, as they occupy the main share in the structure of MSW and can become the basis for the development of resource conservation.
