The article systematizes modern approaches to mathematical modeling of economic development in the context of technological dynamics, institutional transformations and increasing uncertainty. The theoretical foundations of economic and mathematical modeling are revealed, and the stages of model construction are characterized. Classical and neoclassical macroeconomic constructions (Solow–Swan models, AS–AD, IS–LM, Goodwin model), as well as optimization and balance approaches are analyzed. Special attention is paid to modern quantitative tools – econometric, simulation and scenario modeling, machine learning algorithms. New areas of modeling are identified, related to the consideration of institutional and cultural factors, the use of fuzzy logic, reflexive behavioral models and intelligent digital systems. The methodological difficulties of modern modeling caused by stochastic processes, sensitivity to parameters, and data quality requirements are substantiated. It is concluded that it is necessary to develop nonlinear and adaptive models that provide high explanatory and predictive ability in conditions of structural instability of the economy.
