The article presents the results of a study on developing musical dictation skills among university applicants with varying levels of preparation. The aim of this research was to build musical dictation and music notation skills to help applicants successfully enter and adapt to the academic process at Omsk State University (Department of Musical Arts). The scientific novelty of the study lies in combining classical music with elementary music‑making as an effective method for developing musical dictation skills and building a theoretical foundation. The proposed approach enables applicants without prior musical training to effectively acquire dictation skills and facilitates mastering the material in the “Solfege” course. The practical significance of the research lies in the potential to integrate this method of developing melodic and rhythmic dictation skills into the educational process of higher education institutions, secondary specialized schools, and children’s art schools. The flexibility in composing musical scores for training purposes is also emphasized. A further research prospect is to expand the sample of applicants and students with gaps in knowledge and to develop larger‑scale scores based on classical music, incorporating musical examples from the 20th century.
