Economic Model of Predictive Maintenance for Aerodrome Electrical Lighting Equipment Considering Failure Criticality
Abstract and keywords
Abstract:
The article considers the economic assessment of predictive maintenance for aerodrome electrical lighting equipment. The problem is that airport expenses for maintaining the airfield lighting system include not only electricity costs and scheduled maintenance, but also the costs of fault detection, emergency repair, downtime of individual infrastructure elements, and standby power supply. The aim of the paper is to develop a calculation model that makes it possible to compare reactive, scheduled, and predictive maintenance options while taking failure criticality into account. The method includes the calculation of operating costs, the use of a failure criticality index, and comparison of the annual economic effect. The paper proposes formulas for total operating costs, electricity costs, expected losses from failures, the criticality index, and the payback period for introducing equipment condition control tools. A demonstration calculation is provided for a notional regional airport. It is shown that the predictive maintenance option may be economically reasonable if the reduction in emergency repairs and downtime exceeds the additional costs of condition control tools and data processing.
