The paper proposes a method for adjusting the longitudinal channel regulator of the automated control system (ACS), which affects not only the quality of transient processes, but also fuel consumption, the load on the steering surface actuators, and the risk of unscheduled maintenance. It is noted that improving the quality of control can lead to increased control inputs and loads on the actuators, resulting in additional operational costs. Therefore, it is advisable to select the settings based on economic criteria. The paper considers the use of a reproducible methodology for selecting the economic settings of the longitudinal channel PID controller based on a single criterion, in which the technical quality indicators (overshoot, settling time, integral error, control energy, and variation of the control signal) are translated into economic indicators: fuel costs, accelerated wear of the actuators, and downtime losses. The economic efficiency of implementing the optimization algorithm and the settings maintenance procedure is evaluated using the net present value (NPV) of the project, in accordance with the generally accepted approaches to evaluating the efficiency of investment projects.
