Apron robotization as a factor of increasing the economic efficiency of the airport: control of unmanned tractors and ladders from a single automated control system center for ground surveillance

Abstract:
The article considers the economic feasibility of integrating unmanned aircraft ground handling facilities into a single digital airport circuit. The limitations of the traditional apron operations model leading to an increase in operating costs are analyzed: dependence on the human factor (high fines for aircraft damage), fragmentation of data (equipment downtime), high density of conflict situations. It is proved that robotic tractors and ladders, functioning as actuators of a centralized automated control system for ground handling, can reduce wages by 60-70%, reduce insurance costs and fines by 30-40%, and increase apron capacity without additional capital investments. The estimated return on investment (ROI) for large hubs is 3-5 years. Technological, organizational, and regulatory barriers are identified, and practical recommendations for overcoming them are given, with an emphasis on economic benefits. The prospects for the transition to a fully autonomous apron as a source of sustainable competitive advantage of the airport are outlined.
