The article is devoted to the problem of the risk of hereditary succession as a factor threatening the economic security and stability of companies, especially family enterprises in Russia. The work analyzes the key risks arising from the transfer of business by inheritance: managerial (lack of experience among the heirs), corporate (conflicts with partners) and temporary (long term acceptance of the inheritance). The study proved that effective planning of business transfer is not a one-time will, but a system consisting of several stages, which begins 3-5 years before the event and includes corporate restructuring, family contracts, financial support and training of heirs. The most common mistake of business owners is to limit themselves only to a will and ignore the rest of the tools. The authors considered how dangerous it is not so much legal obstacles as the imposition of family conflicts and managerial incompetence.
